Nebraska GOP leaders, Joni Ernst speak at Trump volunteer rally
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - An energetic group of voters gathered to support former President Trump and J.D. Vance in Omaha Saturday.
Speakers included party leaders such as Sarpy and Douglas County Chairmen, and Iowa Senator Joni Ernst.
They’re encouraging people to vote early this election.
The event here is a precursor to a weekend of door-knocking and connecting with voters.
However, Trump supporters say they’ve been doing that all election cycle.
The 2nd Congressional District has about 1,000 volunteers for Trump, according to campaign leaders.
Among them, Phil Torrison from Omaha.
His is the first time he says he’s felt compelled to hit the streets and campaign for a presidential candidate.
“Because, in my opinion, we’re at in inflection point in this country, whether we’re going to have freedom or not,“ Torrison said. ”My wife and I are Trump captains. Trump 47 captains. We go out knocking. We get very positive feedback from people. We’re encouraging them to vote. Of course we’ll have people that slam the door in our face, but that’s one out of every 100 people. The vast majority of people are very appreciative of us knocking on their doors.”
Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris is getting support from U.S. Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado.
Bennet will be in Omaha, campaigning for Harris on Monday.
Jane Kleeb, the Nebraska Democratic Party Chair, issued a statement on Ernst coming to Omaha to speak.
“Nebraskans don’t need Donald Trump’s allies coming to town to campaign on his extreme and dangerous Project 2025 agenda that will roll back our rights and decimate the middle class," Kleeb said. “In Omaha, voters care about freedom—that’s why Republicans, Democrats, and Independents in Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District are coming together in a cross-partisan coalition to turn the page on Trump and elect Vice President Harris.”
