One killed in officer-involved shooting in North Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - One was killed in an officer-involved shooting in North Omaha, Police said Saturday.

Police say the incident happened near 31st and Taylor streets just before 5:30 with a report of shots fired.

According to police, a driver was pulled over for a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Steven Phipps, fled, and after a chase was shot after an altercation.

Phipps was taken to Nebraska Medicine with CPR in progress, but police say he has died. Neither of the officers involved were hurt.

According to police, a firearm was recovered from the scene.

Police are looking for the passenger of the vehicle, who left the vehicle after the pursuit, according to police. The passenger has been located, according to police.

OPD is working to gather video surveillance to determine exactly what happened.
