6th suspect, also 16, arrested in murder of Omaha man
Suspects in the murder of Mursal Jama are ages 11-17
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Omaha Police have arrested the sixth suspect sought in last week’s murder of 64-year-old Mursal Jama.
OPD said Thursday that another 16-year-old boy had been arrested, booked on charges of criminal homicide, two counts of robbery, and three counts use of a weapon to commit a felony. He is also the brother of one of the other suspects.
The county attorney’s office tells 6 News the 16-year-old arrested on Thursday will be tried as an adult.
Jama was shot and killed outside his home on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Detectives believe six young people between the ages of 11 and 17 took Jama’s SUV and headed out-of-town to allegedly steal more guns. So far, three of those arrested will be tried in court as adults for murder: the 14-, 16-, and 17-year-olds.
The incident remains under investigation.
It’s the youngest of the lot, the 11-year-old, who’s reigniting a debate about how to deal with kids in trouble with the law.
The 11-year-old appeared in juvenile court just a couple of weeks ago for an unrelated gun-related crime and car theft. By Nebraska law, anyone age 12 or younger cannot be detained, so the judge sent him home.
