OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The man involved in a hit-and-run crash that left an 89-year-old man dead is scheduled to make his appearance in Douglas County Court.

Christopher Dunning, 31, was arrested in Lincoln in connection to the accident, according to court documents. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Wednesday.

Walter Tighe, 89, was crossing West Center Road from north to south when a silver truck headed west struck him near 35th Avenue. Medics declared Tighe dead at the scene on Oct. 1.

Court documents say Dunning’s truck was towed from a parking lot for being in said lot without a permit. The towing company told police the truck had a damaged driver-side headlight. Fingerprint analysis on the front driver-side window found fingerprints from Dunning.

Court documents also say that a woman dating Dunning said she had given him a ride after his truck was in an accident. The woman noted that Dunning was upset about breaking a headlight on his truck. Dunning then asked the woman to take him to a Walmart, where he discarded his phone at a kiosk, and then Dunning slept for an extended period of time at the woman’s residence.

An officer was then contacted by Lincoln Police on Oct. 3, saying that a different woman who met Dunning on a dating app said he was dropped off at her house without his truck. Dunning told the second woman he had been in a crash, but after seeing the story about the hit-and-run, the second woman called LPD.
