Omaha native earns 4-chair turn on NBC’s ‘The Voice’
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - An Omaha native is stepping into the national spotlight and competing on this season of NBC’s The Voice.
DREION performed his Blind Audition for the show on Sept. 30. The Northwest High School graduate earned a coveted 4-Chair Turn from coaches Michael Bublé, Gwen Stefani, Reba McEntire and Snoop Dogg.
“This experience has been everything that I could have dreamed of,” DREION said. “Standing in a room just wishing and hoping that millions of people one day would be able to hear me and here it is.”
DREION sang “Shining Star” by the band Earth, Wind & Fire. In his first interview after the Blind Audition aired with 6 News, he said he previously toured with the band and partners with them often.
After receiving a four chair turn, DREION chose to join Team Snoop.
He said he went into the audition thinking he would pick Snoop Dogg as his coach, but that the choice was harder than he thought it would be.
“He brings so much more to me than just teaching me about vocals and singing because he’s not a singer,” DREION said. “But he’s an entrepreneur. He’s an artist. He can deliver the full package.”
DREION has a special story and purpose that he said fuels his music: he went through the foster care system as a child.
“I am a testament that you can really make it out of anything,” DREION said.
Now with this platform, he’s working to give what he’s learned in the music industry back to the next generation of artists.
“Next week I will be back to give that live experience to the audience there in Omaha,” DREION said. “Bring it back and go back and see all of my amazing teachers and friends and family and supporters and give my concert at the Omaha Performing Arts Center.”
DREION’s homecoming concert will be held at the Holland Music Club next Friday. It starts at 7:30 p.m. and you can buy tickets here.
You can watch The Voice and follow DREION’s journey every Monday night on WOWT 6 News.
