2024 tornado outbreak: Where to dispose of storm debris

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - With so much tornado damage in the Omaha area, residents are likely searching for places to dump debris.

DOUGLAS COUNTY

Tree and vegetation debris drop-off is available at three sites:

  • North parking lot of Greenbrier Park, located near 209th and Blondo streets. Open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily until further notice. A free drop off is also available at this site for damaged appliances; large dumpsters are being provided for disposal of those.
  • Two Rivers State Recreation Area, off 264th and F streets. Open weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Pheasant Point Landfill, 13505 N. 216th Street in Bennington. Open with extended hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Saturday, May 11. The Douglas County Board has waived fees for dumping at the landfill for the interim. Bear in mind all loads must be secured and covered with a tarp. Green debris limbs must be cut into four-foot sections or smaller and may be mixed. Home appliances and hazardous materials are NOT accepted at the landfill.
Douglas County commissioners waived building fees and extended storm debris drop-off sites Tuesday.

WASHINGTON COUNTY

Tree and vegetation debris drop-off is also available at three sites:

  • Intersection of County Roads 38 and 35 near the Blair Airport -- now CLOSED as of Friday, May 10
  • 3rd and Grant in Blair
  • Fort Calhoun City Tree Dump at intersection of County Roads 47 and 34

These locations are open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. until further notice. No roofing material, appliances or metal objects are accepted.

RAMBLEWOOD NEIGHBORHOOD (ELKHORN)

Omaha Public Works is assisting Ramblewood residents with 10 dump trucks for disposal of wood, bricks, shingles, broken furniture, drywall, and other household construction debris. The service is free and will continue daily from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. until further notice.

The city asks you not to dispose of tires, hazardous materials, waste oil, paint, batteries, appliances, or air conditioners here.

POTTAWATTAMIE COUNTY

County officials have established a drop-off site for tree debris only at the former KOA Campground at 145th Street and Rosewood Road. The site will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily from May 4 to June 2, with the exception of Memorial Day. There is no charge for property owners.

Bear in mind no material outside vegetation debris will be accepted. County Secondary Roads employees will be on site with any necessary equipment to assist. Once the drop-off site closes, Pottawattamie County Conservation will burn the debris.
