Early morning prep for Husker Homecoming festivities on UNL campus

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Huskers are taking on Rutgers Saturday for the big Homecoming game. This means for 24 hours before kickoff, students and organizations are painting the town red to build up Husker pride around campus.
Friday is jam-packed with Homecoming festivities that begin as early as 11 a.m.
UNL’s Alumni Association will be hosting this year’s ‘Beat Rutgers Drive-Thru Tailgate.’ Nicole Sweigard, Associate Executive Director for Alumni Relations said it’s an opportunity for both alum and students as well as fans to come together before game day. She said they are giving out pizza and free Husker gear. The drive-thru starts Friday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. in front of the Wick Alumni Center.
Take a stroll on campus to check out the lawn displays from fraternities like Theta Xi that are participating in the annual competition. It will be happening at the same time on R Street.
Friday evening starting at 6 p.m., the Homecoming Parade will be floating between 14th and R Streets. Parade-goers will see organizations, homecoming royalty, and the Cornhusker Marching Band. Doug Bush, Marching Band Director, said they have been preparing since August and they are excited to see alumni and fans celebrate the Huskers side-by-side.
Then, you can end the night at The Cornstalk Festival at Memorial Stadium East Plaza. People of all ages are welcome to attend the gathering where there’ll be food trucks, tattoo stations, hayrides, and live music. It runs from until 8 p.m.
