OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Bluejays broke in their home floor Friday night in their annual Blue White Scrimmage. While the rosters for the respective teams remained fluid, the match went to a fifth set where the White Team came out on top, 16-14.

Outside hitter Norah Sis and setter Kendra Wait proved to still be the anchors for the Jays as they enter their senior seasons, while redshirt freshman middle blocker Jaya Johnson showed that a year of development and watching Creighton’s Sweet Sixteen run from the wings was not time wasted.

Fifth-year senior transfers Maddy Bilinovic and Elise Goetzinger also made their debuts in a Creighton uniform during the scrimmage.

“All of preseason we’ve been on our practice gym,” said Bilinovic who transferred to CU after four years at Penn State. “The girls and I-- we really competed and we gave it our all and it’s just really awesome to be in here finally.”

“There were honestly more fans than I thought there would be,” said Goetzinger who transferred from Kentucky. “Which is probably never going to be surprising in Omaha or in Nebraska in general.”

Goetzinger delivered some big swats, in part thanks to a connection with Wait she’s been developing since the spring.

“We’ve been working together the last six months on it. And so finally seeing it come to fruition how dominant that can be is really exciting for the future and as we get into games,” said Goetzinger.

In two weeks, Creighton hosts NC State in their season opener on Friday, August 30th as a part of the Bluejay Invitational.
