Remains of Korean War soldier to be buried in Omaha

He was reported missing in action while fighting along the Kum River in Taejon, South Korea in July 1950.

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The remains of a Korean War soldier from Omaha that were recently identified will be buried in Omaha.

Pfc. Charles A. Vorel, Jr., whose remains were buried in Honolulu, Hawaii, were exhumed and identified. Vorel’s remains will now be moved and buried in Omaha.

Vorel was a member of Baker Company, 1st Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division.

He was reported missing in action while fighting along the Kum River in Taejon, South Korea in July 1950. Vorel was declared non-recoverable in January 1956.

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency accounted for Vorel after his remains were exhumed in July 2019.

Graveside services for Vorel will be held by John A. Gentleman Mortuaries.
