OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Omaha Police Department Chief Todd Schmaderer has written a book on policing and leadership.

According to Monday’s news release from a city staffer, the book, titled “Synergy of Influence,” is intended to be a nonpartisan examination of how the chief’s style of leadership and media relations shapes public perception and policy in the City of Omaha.

“His leadership has consistently been a source of strength and stability for Omaha, earning him a respected voice on the national stage,” the release states.

The book draws from Schmaderer’s 12 years as OPD Chief, from investigations of serial killers; the policing of civil unrest and public corruption in Omaha; “high-profile” in-custody deaths; and the loss of officers in the line of duty.

According to the news release, Chief Schmaderer looks to leverage the book, written in collaboration with the UNO School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, into a UNO course on “Leadership, Law Enforcement, and the Media” to help future leaders “navigate the complexities of modern policing.”

“The book aims to advance the profession during a time when many major cities are grappling with challenges in police recruitment and retention,” the release states.

Schmaderer’s book includes a foreword written by Dr. Mark Foxall, coordinator for the master’s program in criminal justice Program UNO.

Pre-sales of the book go for $45 for the eBook, and $50 for a hard-cover physical copy.

Currently, there are two scheduled book signing events in December.
