LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A Lincoln birth center is transitioning from delivering babies to a clinic-only model.

CHI Health said their Lincoln Birth Center will make the transition beginning on Sept. 1.

The hospital system said the decision is a result of financial challenges and fewer women meeting the requirements to give birth at the center.

“We will only perform deliveries at St. Elizabeth because we are seeing fewer women meeting the low-risk requirements to deliver in the off site birth center,” said a CHI Health spokesperson. “Our midwives will continue seeing patients at the clinic and perform deliveries at St. Elizabeth, providing women with the same compassionate care - just in a different location. Our goal remains to provide the best care to moms and babies in the communities we serve.”
