FIRST ALERT: Air quality reductions possible through midday Thursday due to wildfire smoke
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The hazy look that you may have noticed over the past couple of days is due to smoke from Canadian wildfires.
So far this week, that smoke has mostly stayed elevated in our atmosphere and not affected our air quality greatly.
However, a front will pass through the area Wednesday afternoon that has origins in Canada (often called an Alberta Clipper, especially in winter).
This looks likely to pull in more wildfire smoke into our area tonight through tomorrow morning after the front passes.
Air quality could become reduced late this evening and through midday Thursday; this could especially impact those with heart or lung conditions.
Those who have those preexisting conditions will want to reduce outdoor time until the smoke thins out in the second half of our Thursday, when the wind direction shifts to the southeast.
