OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Brody Jindra is made for the big moment.

“He’s not afraid,” Millard South baseball head coach Greg Geary said. “There’s no moment that’s too big for him.”

That was on display in last week’s battle with then-undefeated Lincoln East, the sophomore’s eighth inning solo shot was the difference in the Patriots 4-3 win.

“Obviously that was a big time hit for him in a big time spot for us as a team,” Geary added.

“It was awesome,” the Patriots right-handed pitcher and shortstop said with a big smile. “Just going out with confidence, just knowing that nobody is going to beat me. Just having the team on my back, just trying to get on base. And just came out hot, I guess.”

Brody had an ace in the hole, bringing an oversized chain to the game as a good luck charm.

“It was like a fake chain for Halloween,” he said. “I thought this might be cool, this might give us a spark. And that’s kind of our thing now. Someone lays a bunt, someone does something cool, we just give them the chain.”

Jindra is playing free knowing his future is secure. He has been committed to Nebraska since January of last year.

“This is the place I want to be,” he said. “I love it here. I love the coaches. [Lance] Harvell is a great guy. Super strong relationship with him. I think that just led me to go to Nebraska.”

Jindra still has two more years before he heads to Lincoln. Until then, wins like last week serve as a statement that Millard South baseball is here to stay.

”We’re still here and we might be a young team but we’re still going to compete with everyone else around us,” he said. “Just let everyone know, we’ve got that confidence and we’re here to fight.”
