4PEAT: Elkhorn North edges Skutt Catholic for 4th straight Class B title
LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - There has yet to be a year since Elkhorn North High School opened its doors that the Wolves girls basketball team has not cut down the net at Pinnacle Bank Arena at the end of the season. For the fourth straight season, the Wolves are Class B state champions. This year, the title came via a late comeback.
Skutt Catholic, who has finished runners-up to Elkhorn North for the third time now, took a four-point lead going into halftime. In the third quarter, the Skyhawks strung together an 8-0 run in the final four minutes of the quarter, capped by a three from senior Peyton McCabe to get their largest lead of the game, 41-32.
Elkhorn North battled back in the fourth quarter, putting together a 9-0 run to go up by two.
McCabe hit her fourth triple of the game with 20 seconds left in the game to tie the score at 47. On the other end, senior Reese Booth sealed the win for the Wolves knocking down two free throws with eight seconds on the clock for a two-point lead.
With one second left, Skutt junior guard Molly Ladwig pulled up for the long two, missing it off the glass. Ladwig finished with a game-high 18 points.
Despite being held to only two points in the final eight minutes, Huskers signee Britt Prince finished with a double-double, tallying a team-high 17 points and 12 rebounds.
