OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - 70-year-old Sue Trisler might just have the most grandchildren in Omaha.

“If you ask me how many kids call me Grandma Sue, I couldn’t tell you. Probably in the thousands,” she said.

For the last decade, she’s volunteered at Field Club Elementary School through the Eastern Nebraska Office of Aging.

“It’s really cool when you’re out in the store and you hear ‘Grandma Sue’ and you know the voice. Not that I always know the name. But you know.”

Even the grown-ups call her Grandma Sue.

“Grandma Sue comes in and she builds strong relationships with kids. They form quick, positive bonds with her,” said Mary Griger, Principal of Field Club Elementary School.

Trisler wanted to be a teacher but never went to college. Now she stays physically and mentally active by being a positive role model to Omaha kindergarteners like Arraya.

“When other kids are learning, I don’t have to yell and scream,” said Arraya.

That’s a lesson learned from Grandma Sue. Sometimes Trisler’s gifts are in the form of lessons, sometimes in the form of chocolate covered animal crackers.

“When it’s all said and done. I’m here for the kids,” said Trisler.
