OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Nebraska Medical Center is bringing a new service to families experiencing child loss.

Construction for Omaha’s first birthing and bereavement suite is set to start this month.

A release says that the space will provide comfort and privacy for families experiencing the loss of a child, as it is away from a traditional labor and delivery environment.

“No Foot Too Small,” a Midwest organization, works to raise awareness of pregnancy loss and infant mortality. They are teaming up with Nebraska Medical Center to bring this service to the Omaha-metro.

“We are honored to collaborate with No Foot Too Small to bring their compassionate mission to our community,” Katie Lessman, a Nebraska Medical Center representative, said. “This suite will be a critical addition to our facility, allowing us to better support families during extremely difficult times.”

Suite locations are already available in in Dubuque and Davenport, Iowa. This is the first expansion out of Iowa, according to a release.

The organization is hosting a Omaha Suite Social event Thursday to raise money for the project and spread awareness about the growing need for these suites.

“Expanding our reach to Nebraska is a significant step towards our goal of national support and changing the healthcare standards for families experiencing the unimaginable,” Robin Boudreau, co-founder and executive director of No Foot Too Small, said.

Construction is set to start on Oct. 15, which is also Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. The budget of the project is $264,000.
