CWS fans facing ban after heckling Florida about batboy’s death in 2021
‘Just don’t come back’: Texas A&M coach apologizes for the incident; officials plan to ban pair from College World Series games for one year
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Two College World Series fans were ejected from Saturday night’s late, late game after heckling the Florida dugout about the recent death of their batboy.
Two fans wearing Texas A&M shirts were screaming at the Florida dugout about the tragic death of their batboy in 2021 — so much so that the umpires stopped the game.
The ugly incident made the rounds on social media, with the Omaha Police Officers Association posting about it on Sunday, calling on CWS officials to ban the men for life.
Security removed the men from the stadium.
MECA officials told 6 News on Monday that the two individuals have not yet been served with the ban and bar paperwork — but that once they are, the ban and bar would likely be in effect for one year.
Aggies Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle also addressed the situation during his post-game news conference:
“First of all, Happy Father’s Day. And I want to apologize on behalf of Texas A&M for whatever the heck went on in that dugout. Whoever those two guys are, they don’t represent what Texas A&M are about. Whoever they are — just don’t come back. Let’s not let those two back in the ballpark.”
According to a 2021 news report from WCJB in Gainesville, Brody Reinhart and his brother, Rex, were both shot in the head by their father, who died by suicide.
Saturday night’s CWS game didn’t get over with until after 1 a.m. Sunday because of a four-hour rain and lightning delay. The Aggies defeated Florida 3-2.
