DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) - Iowa Democrats say they’re already seeing the impacts of a new law reforming Iowa’s Area Education Agencies (AEA’s).

AEA’s provide educational services to Iowa school districts.

According to an AEA staffing report, there are 429 fewer people working for the state’s nine agencies.

Iowa democrats say that’s because of the new law that allows school districts to keep funds that they would have otherwise spent on AEA services.

Governor Kim Reynolds had proposed the changes to the AEA’s before signing the bill into law last spring.

TV9 reached out to Reynolds’ office for comment about the Democrats’ claims.
