OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Progress is being made on the new Mutual of Omaha headquarters downtown.

Neighboring business owner Colin Duggin has seen the building flourish since it first broke ground in 2023.

“We’ve been here 11 years,” Duggin said. “We were here when the old library was still standing.”

Duggin said seeing it get higher makes him feel hopeful about the future.

“It’s very exciting no question about it,” Duggin said. “There’s obviously a whole another industry coming down the street which means business for us which is great.”

Jason Lanoha, who is behind the development of the tower, said they’re getting a lot of work done.

“The core has now reached 290 feet tall,” Lanoha said. “The core will continue to grow and the garage will chase behind it. Although you see the concrete on the core occurring right now what is inside it is all the contractors doing the electrical work, plumbing work, fireproofing, dry walling and so forth.”

Once the tower is complete, the building’s core will be 677 feet tall.

Lanoha is excited to say by next year, you’ll finally be able to see the steel skeleton that will wrap around that core.

“It’s a big coordinated effort and making good steady progress staying on shcedule,” Lanoha said. “There are all these battles, but we’re pushing through them and I think everyone here is extremely happy with both the progress and the quality of the job site.”

Construction for the new Mutual of Omaha tower is expected to be done in 2026. Lanoha said that’s when Mutual of Omaha employees at the Midtown offices will officially move in.

“Mutual of Omaha will move down here upon completion of the tower,” Lanoha said. “We’re imagining that campus right now and going through the design process and working with key stakeholders, and ultimately the goal is a vibrant mixed use area.”

As the Mutual of Omaha tower takes shape, Duggin wants to remind his current customers about one thing.

“Be aware that we’re still here even though there’s a lot of construction going on,” Duggin said.

Once the headquarters are complete, Lanoha told 6 News it will be the tallest building in Omaha.
