OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Last season, the Patriots were one win, 11 points, away from their first trip to Memorial Stadium since 2010. With more than half of their starters on offense and defense returning this year, Millard South has a real shot at not only making it to Lincoln but also winning a state title for the first time since 2009.

“In 2009 was the last time we won the state championship. you know that was led by Bronson Marsh. I mean great leadership throughout that team and lots of talent,” said Patriots senior defensive lineman Adam Pugh. “We’re hoping to emulate them for sure.”

“Millard South has always been rich in tradition and we want to get it back where the program needs to be and so these guys take a lot of prode in that,” said Millard South football head coach Ty Wisdom.

Linebacker and occasional offensive threat Dylan Kuhl returns for his final season, while the dynamic duo of quarterback Jett Thomalla and receiver Amarion Jackson enter their junior seasons. Last year, Thomalla and Jackson connected for 13 touchdowns.

“I’m always out throwing with Jett. Catching passes. I’ve been playing with Jett since I was little too so it’s bigger than just coming out here through high school,” said Jackson.

The South Boyz add tight end Chase Loftin to their offensive arsenal. The senior committed to Florida State at the end of June.

“We’re going to move him around. We’re going to use him everywhere. He’s a nightmare on the outside to cover and we’ll put him on the inside and he can block and do all the things that we want him to do,” said Wisdom.

Millard South begins their season with a long road trip. The Patriots travel to Chandler, Arizona to take on Basha on August 30th.
