6 First Alert Weather Day into Wednesday morning
Senior Chief Meteorologist Rusty Lord reports that temperatures are starting in the 40s Tuesday morning and warming into the mid 50s throughout the day.
“We’re starting the day with enough cloud cover and breeze to avoid a widespread frost in the area for Tuesday morning," Lord says.
Lord says it will have a fall feel to the air Tuesday before freezing into Wednesday with the coldest readings of the season.
Man arrested in connection to murder of Council Bluffs woman
A man was arrested Monday in connection to the recent murder of a 28-year-old Council Bluffs woman.
Justin Sickler, 45, also of Council Bluffs, is facing charges of First Degree Murder, Abuse of a Corpse, and Theft in the 3rd Degree.
A report says that Brianne McIntosh was reported missing in 2023 by a relative. The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation says that her body was found in Fremont County in Feb. 2024.
An autopsy found that McIntosh sustained severe facial injuries related to her death.
Election 2024: Hearings held abortion initiatives Tuesday
At the Nebraska State Capitol, public hearings are continuing Tuesday on ballot initiatives for the Nov. election.
Tuesday, both abortion initiatives are being heard by “Protect Women and Children” from 1:30-4:30 p.m. and “Protect the Right to Abortion” from 6 - 9 p.m.
Other initiatives being covered are: school choice, paid sick leave, and medical marijuana.
Hearings for District 2 will be held at UNO next week on Oct. 25 and 26.
OPPD, NPPD returns to Nebraska after helping hurricane victims
Nebraska power crews are returning to the state after responding to assist with power restoration after Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
OPPD reports that they helped power companies in four different states: Virginia, West Virginia, Georgia, and Florida.
They say that the extent of the power outages was less than expected.
NPPD’s 15-worker team worked in Augusta, Georgia and then stayed on standby to assist in Orlando, Florida.
OPPD hosts resource fair for Omaha-metro community
OPPD is hosting their second Community Resource Fair for their customers, and others in the Omaha-metro.
The event is from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Salvation Army’s Kroc Center.
They are offering their services to customers, and information such as how to save energy and weatherize a home.
Heartland Family Service to hold open house for new center
On Tuesday, Heartland Family Service is holding an open house for its new “Peer Center” for those struggling with mental health.
Instead of having sessions with professionals, the center offers a free space for peer counseling and support.
The center opened in July, but they say they have been slow in getting people to participate. They are requesting feedback from the public.
The open house happens from 2-6 p.m. at their Benson campus.
